About Schardt Industries
Schardt Industries is an independent software studio led by Matthew Schardt. We build operational platforms, custom tools, mobile apps, and free open-source software for the needs of businesses and individuals. The work combines experience in field operations with hands-on software engineering.
Today, that work spans DestrierOS for connected business and field operations, apps for recovery and household coordination, and Ledger Calendar for personal budgeting. From a company’s daily workflows to someone’s monthly bills, the aim is the same: make important information easier to manage and act on.
Schardt Industries handles product design, architecture, development, deployment, and ongoing improvement. Projects are built around practical needs, with an emphasis on clear workflows, maintainability, and respect for the people using them.
About the founder
I’m Matthew Schardt, a project manager in the energy sector and a software developer. My background includes coordinating field operations, safety requirements, and tight schedules—work where small details matter and systems have to hold up in the real world. Those same principles guide how I design and build software.
I also completed the Full Stack Developer Program at Carnegie Mellon University, where I strengthened my engineering foundations and modern development practices. Schardt Industries is where that formal training meets years of hands-on operations experience.
What we’re building
- DestrierOS — A connected operations platform bringing customers, dispatch, work orders, fleet, workforce, inventory, finance, and documents into one workspace. The web platform is live, the Linux desktop version is running, the mobile field app is in early alpha, and the time-clock kiosk is ship-ready.
- Ledger Calendar — A free, open-source budgeting tool I created for personal use and released for others. It brings paychecks, bills, spending, debt, and savings goals into a calendar, running locally on Ubuntu with data stored on your computer.
- Recovery Companion — Available on iOS and Android, with meeting search, sobriety tracking, craving-management tools, and community features to support people in addiction recovery.
- Simon Scheduler — A live web app for shared family calendars, chores, shopping lists, and household coordination. Native mobile apps are planned.
- KWS Employee Portal — A custom workforce management platform for Killion & Sons Well Service, supporting scheduling, safety paperwork, incident reporting, and employee resources.
Whether it’s a new internal tool, an operations dashboard, or a public-facing app, I approach each project with the same mindset: understand the real constraints, design a clear workflow, and ship software that people actually want to use.

Schardt Industries was founded with a simple belief: software should make life easier, not more complicated. The studio exists to build tools that meaningfully improve how people work and live, without exploiting their data or forcing them into bloated systems they don’t need.
The mission is to create clear, reliable, purpose-built software that helps people accomplish difficult tasks more easily—whether that’s coordinating operations with DestrierOS, planning personal finances with Ledger Calendar, or finding support through Recovery Companion. Every project is guided by a commitment to transparency, respect for user privacy, and a deep understanding of real-world challenges.
